Percentage of MDs who are IMGs
by county, 2001
This map shows the number of IMGs as a percentage of all doctors, by county. The dark blue counties show a high percentage of IMGs relative to all doctors, the lighter counties show relatively low concentrations of IMGs. (Note: IMGs make up 23.3% of all MDs nation-wide.) With a few exceptions (such as Miami and New York), the dark blue counties showing a relatively high number of IMGs are sparsely populated areas with few doctors. In many of those counties there may be only 1-5 MDs, all of whom or most of whom are IMGs.
