The distribution of IMGs in the United States has not changed a great deal over the past 20 years. Metropolitan areas, especially large cities such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Miami, continue to draw large numbers of IMGs. The total number of IMGs in the United States has increased from 93,596 in 1981 to 183,968 in 2001.
