All first year resident positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Swedish Family Medicine accepts only those applications transmitted via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) between the opening of the ERAS post office and October 31. We will have eleven first year resident openings this year. For information regarding ERAS, contact the Dean's office of your medical school.  International graduates can contact the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Applicant information is reviewed as soon as ALL of the following items are received through ERAS:

1) ERAS Common Application Form

2) Medical School Transcript

3) Personal Statement

4) Two Letters of Reference (preferably one from a family medicine physician)

5) USMLE Step 1 scores or COMLEX for D.O. students

6) There is one additional requirement for International Medical Graduates: current ECFMG certification

Swedish Family Medicine Residency - First Hill does not sponsor any visas.  Applicants needing Visa sponsorship are required to find outside sponsorship.

Applications are reviewed once ALL items are received by us through ERAS. Applicants will receive a letter in the mail or an email with their interview status. Interviews are not granted on non-interview days.

We do not have an USMLE minimum score requirement; however,  applicants need to have passed Step 1 on their first attempt. We do not require clinical experience in the US and we do not have a time restriction for when you graduated medical school to when you can apply for residency.

For questions regarding the application and interview process, please contact Sonya Fukeda.

Please keep in mind that the deadline for application is October 31st and no application will be accepted after this date.

When applying to Swedish Family Medicine Residency - First Hill, you only apply once through ERAS.  You do not apply or interview separately for Downtown Family Medicine, Swedish Community Health (Ballard), and Swedish Family Medicine (First Hill).  However, each clinic site does have its own match number and you will need to rank each site individually.  You can rank one, two, or all three sites.  If you are interested in the geriatrics training track, please contact us to find out how to choose that option.
