Overseas Funding Resources

Your one-month overseas rotation will likely cost between $2,000 and $4,000, most of which will be for travel. In most cases, low-cost food and housing will be available at the site. You may choose to fund these expenses with your own resources, or you may wish to turn to one of a number of organizations which provide partial or full funding for residents and medical students doing overseas rotations. Residents in the International Medicine AOC will be required to save their CME reimbursement funds from the R2 and R3 years to apply them to their travel expenses for their rotation. We may be able to find grant or Foundation funding but this resource is not reliably available so should not be counted on every year.

Note: Under Medicare regulations, you may receive no compensation for your work from the overseas agency or facility. Your only compensation for the month will be your normal paycheck from Swedish Medical Center.

This listing from the UW International Health Group is intended to be a source for "one-stop shopping" for anyone interested in finding funding for an international rotation. While the site is aimed at medical students, most of the agencies listed will gladly support residents as well.
