Demonstrate a high degree of professional responsibility in managing patients with Surgery-related problems by referral coordination, direct management and follow up.

Demonstrate professional demeanor, attire and appearance in all settings.

 

The Senior Surgery Resident will assign patients to the R1.  The R-1 will be responsible for the work-ups on the cases to which s/he is assigned. S/he will write the history and physical exam, orders, and progress notes. S/he should round on and care for these cases on which s/he has assisted to learn aspects of post-op care.

During this rotation residents will be in their own continuity clinic 2 half days a week and will be expected to attend Tuesday afternoon didactics every week. The remaining 7 half-days per week should be spent with the surgery residency faculty and residents. Residents may take vacation or CME during this rotation.

Practice-Based Learning

Assess the practice models on this rotations for evidence of practice-based learning and identify opportunities that would be appropriate for the this medical area.

Identify a learning opportunity within your clinic practice that could be studied to improve the care for patient with Surgery-related problems.

 

Systems-Based Practice

Learn how to access the appropriate services for patients with Surgery-related problems and the impact of utilization management for these patients.

Demonstrate understanding of the role of the PCP in the immediate and after-care of patients with Surgery-related diagnoses.
