Wellesley
Chapman, M.D.
University of Washington
Wellesley
took the long route to Swedish. He grew up in the Midwest--
St. Louis, Missouri, to be precise--and trotted off to Burlington,
Vermont for undergraduate studies in Economics. He had intended to
learn about finance and work on Wall Street, but something happened
and he ended up running away to France, where lived for four years
working as a bartender. While there he developed an interest in
theatre, and eventually moved to Chicago to live the impoverished
life of an actor. There he acted in a variety of plays, good and no
so good, and was doing pretty well at it when he quite suddenly
became smitten with wilderness medicine. One thing led to another
and
he went from actor to wilderness first responder to medical
student,
and now Family Medicine resident. His interests revolve around
social
justice, which comprises the foundation of his work, and behavioral
psychology, which informs, more than anything, how he works.
Presently, he is pondering simple-but-offbeat public health gestures
designed to guide patients toward greater control of their own
health. When not devising schemes for the fusion of art,
technology,
and healthcare, Wellesley is a helpless father and occasionally
helpful husband.
