Medical Student Rotations Swedish Family Medicine/Swedish Medical Center's graduate medical education program is affiliated with the University of Washington Family Medicine Residency Network and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Swedish Family Medicine is pleased to be an active partner with the University of Washington School of Medicine in providing nationally recognized excellence in Family Medicine training. As part of our mission to train excellent physicians, Swedish Family Medicine (SFM) offers several rotations for medical students working toward their MD or DO degrees. For third year medical students at the University of Washington, we offer a six-week rotation as part of the core third year requirements. For a full description of the UW clerkship program, visit the UW clerkship site. Please note that the University of Washington is the contact for this rotation. For additional information, including requirements and a University of Washington School of Medicine application form, visit the UW site. For fourth year students from LCME or Osteopathic accredited medical schools we offer an inpatient Sub-I rotation. These experiences last anywhere from 4- 6 weeks and are full-time. This rotation provides students with an opportunity to work intensively with our inpatient service team. The inpatient Family Practice Service provides care to adult and pediatric patients admitted by a panel of family physicians, general internists, subspecialty internists and pediatricians. The inpatient team consists of an R-1, two or three R-2's, a supervising R-3, and a family practice faculty attending. The team takes care of a wide range of pediatric and adult patients, including perinatal admissions. The clinical problems seen are ones important to practicing physicians, such as pneumonia, meningitis, heart failure, abdominal pain, diabetes, AIDS, stroke, asthma, and complications of pregnancy. For additional information, including requirements and a University of Washington School of Medicine application form for visiting student rotations, visit the UW site. The site also describes the criteria for accepting Visiting Students to the University of Washington from other U.S. medical schools. If you have general questions about this experience, please contact the residency administrative offices at (206) 386-6054. Please contact Amy Bingell with any questions.
