From its origins as a pioneering family medicine program in
1970, Swedish Family Medicine Residency-First Hill has
remained dedicated to the training outstanding family
physicians and leaders. Our mission is to provide the best
educational environment and experience to prepare residents
to be highly skilled family physicians to better serve our
community. Throughout their training at Swedish, our
residents are given extensive learning opportunities in both
inpatient and outpatient medicine, with special attention to
preparing them to practice the full spectrum of family
medicine.
We are enthusiastic about the future of Family Medicine and
see the need for family physicians to fill the role as
medical leaders in the communities they serve at both the
local and national level. We also believe that the
foundation of the health of our nation and world must be
built on well-trained family physicians serving in the key
role as primary care physicians. Therefore, the scope of
Family Medicine will continue to evolve as the needs of our
communities dictate. The additions of our
Fellowships in Obstetrics and Geriatrics
and our Areas of Concentration in
Global Health and
Wilderness Medicine are clear examples of ways in which we
are leading the way in re-shaping the vision of Family
Medicine into the 21st century.
Please take a moment to peruse our website, paying special
attention to our extensive online curriculum and digital
resources. Our residents have compiled a list of our
program highlights
which I hope you will find helpful. If you are a medical
student interested in our program, make sure you check out
our
Med Student Information page which will
provide you with our application process for rotations
(clerkships, electives, and sub-internships) as well as for
our residency program. Also, take a look at our preview
video showing some of the highlights of Seattle and our
program.
