Publications

All of our third year residents write a Clinical Inquiry for publication in the Journal of Family Practice, with help from two faculty co-authors (Gary Kelsberg, M.D. and Jon Neher, M.D.), plus a medical librarian from the University of Washington Health Sciences Library. Drs. Kelsberg and Neher provide direct guidance via three workshop sessions in the third year of residency (see Residency Workshops )

Residents have the option of composing their own questions from problems they have encountered in their clinical practice. In addition to satisfying the RRC requirement for "resident scholarly work", writing the Clinical Inquiry gives residents practical experience researching the best evidence, analyzing it, and applying it to care for their patients.  Their research contribution benefits everyone, since the Journal of Family Practice is read worldwide and Clinical Inquiries are one of the most popular features in the Journal.

In addition to publication, residents also invite the Medical Staff at Valley Medical Center to the oral presentation of their Clinical Inquiries.
