Family Medicine Research Externship Summer 2008
Deadline for Applications: March 31st, 2008
The Department of Family Medicine supports a selected number of medical students to do research under the mentorship of community practitioners and academic faculty. Students are actively involved in the choice of research questions and in study design. Externship projects usually involve original data collection and/or analysis, and can meet the UW School of Medicine III requirement (Selective 1). Most students schedule Externships over the summer between their first and second years of medical school.
The Research Externship pays a stipend of $450/week FTE (or less for part-time) for 4-8 weeks.
If you are interested in applying for this opportunity and planning a study, please email us soon. We encourage applicants to consult Dr. Phillips to discuss their interests and plans. Students planning to start their projects during the summer must begin early to plan a study, find a faculty sponsor, prepare a proposal, and apply for IRB approval. We offer research training for interested students.
To apply for a Family Medicine Student Research Externship submit your III-1 Petition form, completed, and signed, to Lee Robison in the Department of Family Medicine, E-304. The deadline for this summer is Monday, March 31st, 2008. Projects must receive III Committee and Human Subjects approvals, if applicable. To be eligible for this funding, you must have a Family Medicine faculty sponsor for the project.
These student opportunities are funded by the Foundations of the Washington Academy and American Academy of Family Physicians, to support the training of medical students bound for careers in Family Practice.
